Description

Gaba Oolong is a high mountain Taiwanese tea harvested at a height of approximately 1600 meters. It has undergone a special oxygen-free fermentation process discovered and perfected in Japan.

Tea leaves are especially high in the amino acid glutamic acid. Japanese tea specialists discovered that partially shading the tea plants two weeks before harvesting creates an increase of the glutamic acid in the leaf. During oxidation, the oxygen is replaced with nitrogen gas, which causes the glutamic acid to be converted to Gamma-Aminobutyric Acid (GABA), which is known for having a unique calming effect on the nervous system. This unique Japanese technology is what makes Gaba Oolong so special.

Once steeped, the tea releases a rich aromatic ripe fruit fragrance. The liquor is a brilliant light golden-green color, and its flavor is sweet and rich, like roasted sweet potato and stone fruit. Enjoy multiple steeps and welcome a sense of deep calm come over you.

Very delicious, strong but not overwhelming GABA flavor. I was purchasing my organic GABA Ooolong from another company, was very pleased with it, but they stopped shipping to US. I started trying other sources, and this GABA oolong from Tealyra is the best of all that I tried. What I find with with the good GABA oolongs is that they have an additional deeper flavor, maybe it's from the additional processing that creates the GABA that also creates the more intense flavor. This version also has much more flavor than Tealyra's other GABA oolong, the GABA Oolong #5. I would recommend this version to anyone, beginner and experienced, because you really can taste the difference GABA makes.

Definitely will purchase this again. Very unique tasting tea. I’m not good at articulating taste but definitely honey/biscuit taste with floral vibe to it. It definitely got me a bit “tea drunk” after drinking an 8oz cup. Try this if your into oolongs!!

OMG wow, love this tea. Totally unique flavor profile unlike any other oolong tea I've tried. As noted by the other reviews, if you are intrigued (and love) banana notes you will love this tea. If not, maybe try something else. Totally clean, crisp, refreshing, flowery (banana) taste. LOVE IT.

Lovely tea, very special. Slightly milder than the #5 one, but the leaves are whole and unfurl wholly. And it's organic, so hence more expensive. Temperature best about 85 degC, about 6g per 200 ml water, more for a stronger taste.

Absolutely exquisite! Great GABA, a bit pricey but worth ever penny and then some. Juts like the description, but I’d even say even more complex and delicious. Ripe fruits, chestnut honey sweetness, roasted sweet potato, cinammon, white pepper, mountain top after rain. Medium texture, super refreshing, quenching and salivating. Holds up for at least 9 steeps when brewed gongfu(6g per 100ml at 195F). Sublime, relaxing and creative Cha Qi. Literally EVERYTHING you want out a tea. A must try. A great tea to set the bar for what a tea session should be like. Thank you, Tealyra! ????

I did enjoy this GABA, very heavy dried fruit/raisin/ripe banana notes that lasts for many infusions. Seems a bit less complex than others I've tried but still an enjoyable tea that I could drink daily.

Nice rich amber brew. I noted medium-oxidized tea notes, hints of sweet spice and ripe banana in the first steep. Subsequent steeps mellowed into a warm, comforting blanket on a cold snowy day. I love to drink this tea before reading a good book. I can get lost in the story and feel the GABA, Theanine, and caffeine working synergistically to make for a lovely wind-down.

Probably the notable thing with this tea, flavor-wise is a very strong ripe banana note. This is also what I've experienced with other gaba teas. Some people will love this, but others (like myself) might now.

I am an Oolong lover, but this tea is very "green", and I don't care for that flavor. I did not taste any of the ripe fruit either. It left an aftertaste in my mouth I couldn't get rid of for hours, that was like an over boiled green leafy vegetable. I couldn't wait to get back to my wonderful milk Oolong.
