Find a teapot for the way you brew.
Glass teapots like the Lyra Glass Teapot 37oz, with its tall stainless steel infuser, and the smaller Pyxis Glass Teapot 20oz let you watch the leaves unfurl. Porcelain teapots like the Pluto Porcelain Teapot 18.2oz keep tea warm and do not absorb flavours.
Glass teapots also work well for iced or cold-brewed tea. Pair your teapot with tea cups and mugs.
The material of your teapot affects how long it keeps tea hot, how easy it is to clean and which teas it suits best.
| Material | Keeps heat | Best for | Care | Good to know |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Glass | Medium | Green, white, blooming and herbal teas | Dishwasher-safe on most models | You can watch the leaves unfurl |
| Porcelain | Medium to good | Every tea type | Easy; doesn't hold flavours | Classic all-rounder |
| Glass teapot-kettle | Medium | Heating water and brewing in one pot | Rinse after use | Goes on the stove |
| Cast iron | Very good | Black tea and pu-erh | Hand wash and dry fully to prevent rust | Heavy; keeps a pot warm longest |
| Clay (Yixing) | Good | One tea type per pot, often oolong or pu-erh | Rinse with water only, no soap | Absorbs flavour over time |
| Stainless steel | Medium | Everyday and travel use | Very easy | Hard to break |
Tealyra carries glass and porcelain teapots with infusers, which suit every tea type and are easy to clean.
Allow about 250 ml per cup. A teapot of 16 to 20 oz (470 to 590 ml) serves one or two people, 30 to 40 oz (890 to 1180 ml) suits three or four, and 60 oz (1770 ml) is good for a family or a pitcher of iced tea.
Only if it is made for it. The Lyra Glass Teapot is stovetop safe on gas and electric. Check each product page before heating a teapot directly.
An infuser lets you lift the leaves out when the tea is ready, so later cups don't turn bitter. It is the easiest choice for loose leaf tea. Without one, pour all the tea off the leaves through a strainer.
Fill it with warm water and a tablespoon of baking soda, let it sit for an hour, then rinse. Avoid harsh scrubbers on glass and porcelain.
