Pu-erh cakes and bricks are pressed pu-erh tea from Yunnan, made to brew many cups and to age over time.
For a smooth, earthy ripe cup, choose Decade Ripe Pu'erh Brick 200g, Warm up Ripe Pu'erh Brick 220g, or Chrysanthemum Ripe Pu'erh Brick 220g, which has chrysanthemum flowers pressed into the tea. Prefer loose leaves? Browse all pu-erh tea.
Both are pressed pu-erh. Cakes are usually round and flat, while bricks are rectangular. The shape mostly affects how you store and break the tea, not how it tastes.
Break off about 3 to 5 grams, a piece roughly the size of a large coin, for an 250 ml cup. Rinse it once with hot water, then steep at 96 to 100°C for 2 to 4 minutes.
At about 4 grams per session, a 220g cake gives roughly 50 sessions. Each session can be steeped several times, so one cake lasts a long while.
Raw pu-erh is the one people usually age, since its fresh, lively taste slowly turns smoother over the years. Ripe pu-erh is ready to drink now and changes more gently.
